After a long week of classes and performances, I reveled in my shopaholism and decided that I was in desperate need of some retail therapy. For me, retail therapy doesn’t necessarily mean spending money. You can get your fashion fix just by heading to retail hubs like SoHo or the Garment District and observing the street style. I find that the best way to see what’s on trend is to just go out and see what people are wearing. I pull so much of my style inspiration from looks that I see on the street.
BCBG Jacket | Commes des Garcons t-shirt (thrifted) | A&F Jeans | Vans Sneakers | Bershka Fanny Pack | Francesca’s Sunglasses
A retail therapy session is always more fun if you’re wearing a good outfit yourself. This look is an eclectic mix of different fashion trends: it’s skater, menswear, and urban-chic with a monochromatic scheme and a pop of color.
I love this look because the combination of the tomboy aesthetic with an artsy, downtown vibe seems so effortlessly cool. I feel like an alternative R&B artist who lives in TriBeCa, only drinks organic, black coffee, and doesn’t feel the need to conform to traditional gender norms when it comes to style. It’s a whole vibe.
Fall is always a great time to play with layering and darker color combinations. A black and white ensemble will always be chic and playing with different textures and proportions will make a look with minimal color more interesting. I chose the lighter, distressed jeans for this particular look because they added a cool-toned color that balanced out the black. I would definitely recreate this look with black jeans for a more elevated look.
My Commes des Garcons men’s t-shirt is another San Francisco thrift store find. I love the fit and graphic design that the shirt has. The text reads “wear your freedom” which is just badass.
The red cat-eye frames are my favorite aspect of the outfit. They’re just so extra; the perfect statement accessory. People tend to stare a little longer when I’m wearing them. They seem to wonder who the girl behind the red cat-eyes is. I love the air of pseudo-mystery that they give me. I want to be buried in these glasses.
I hope you all enjoyed this post and would like to know your thoughts on this outfit in the comments. Keeping checking back for more fall outfit inspiration coming very soon.
